As a Printmaking/Drawing major you will be introduced to a broad range of technical and conceptual tools. The major is a meeting ground for a variety of processes and platforms, including installation, public projects, and digital media. You will be encouraged to expand on traditional techniques and presentations through experimentation with the mark, the matrix, and the multiple. The program has a history of innovative, large-scale, mixed-media approaches to the printed and drawn mark.
Our facilities encourage the varied technical and conceptual views of the major. Our presses, papermaking, and etching facilities support large-scale works up to 5 x 10 feet, and there is digital capability to make billboard-sized prints.
Our program emphasizes an open studio environment and individual creative development. Juniors and seniors work on projects of their own initiatives and are granted 24-hour access to their own studios. The faculty focuses on the importance of being part of a community of independent, resourceful, and self-motivated artists.
Island Press
Island Press is a unique learning experience within the major, giving students the opportunity to be part of the conceptual and technical development of a project by a professional artist. Artists work with a master printer and alongside students and faculty who work as assistant printers and papermakers.
