December 15, 2012 - January 19, 2013
Closing Reception: 4-6p, January 18
Display Cases Outside Kranzberg Art & Architecture Library, Ground Floor, Kemper Art Museum

This exhibition features sculptures first-year art students created as part of a direct observation exercise for 3D Design, taught by Ron Leax, the Halsey C. Ives Professor of Art, in fall 2012. A closing reception will take place from 4-6p, January 18.

The course provided an introduction to basic design principles and their application to three-dimensional form and real space and time. Students' design vocabulary was broadened through exercises that deal with mass, volume, weight, gravity, and movement. Students learned to use a variety of materials, tools, and processes.
