The Steedman Fellowship Governing Committee is pleased to announce the recipients of the 2018 Steedman Student Summer Research Grants. The graduate recipient is Kun Yang (MArch18) and the undergraduate recipient is Francisco Coch (BS20).

Awarded annually to Washington University architecture students, the $5,000 grants support the investigation of an architectural topic of the students' choosing. Recipients are selected by the committee on the basis of their proposed study outline, portfolio of work, and academic achievement.

Kun Yang will travel to Marrakesh, Morocco, to study building strategies and technologies for dealing with extreme weather conditions in a complex, urban context.

Francisco Coch will draw from the design approaches of Studio Mumbai (founded by alumnus Bijoy Jain) to explore local and alternative building traditions in India, including improvised building practices within informal communities in Mumbai.
