The Weitman Gallery features photography exhibitions from students as well as professional photographers from around the world. Established in 1995, the Weitman Gallery was originally located off campus in the Lewis Center building in University City. In January 2008, a dedication ceremony was held for the gallery's new facilities, which are housed in the lower level of Steinberg Hall, immediately adjacent to offices and studios for the Digital Imaging & Photography major.

The gallery is named after former University photographer Herb Weitman, BSBA50. For more than four decades, he played a vital role in presenting images of Washington University to the nation and the world. In the late 1960s, he helped to found the photography program, and stayed on in his role as head of Photographic Services until 1994.

Weitman's ability to capture University life brought him acclaim both on campus and nationally. He was named the "Photographer of the Decade" for all of U.S. higher education by the American Alumni Council in the 1960s, and he received the honor again in the 1980s from the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE). In addition to his role as a University photographer, Weitman traveled across the globe taking pictures, and was the official NFL photographer for the St. Louis football Cardinals.

The Weitman Gallery is open during regular business hours. For more information, call 314.935.6500.

Student design for a uHome.

As part of a Spring 2010 studio taught by senior lecturer Don Koster, 13 graduate architecture students have been working on the uHome U City Project, which seeks to design, develop, and construct sustainable but affordable LEED Platinum homes in the Sutter Heights neighborhood, in partnership with Arcturis and Green Space Construction.

Each student has developed a design for a uHome; at this stage in their studio work, they are seeking feedback about their designs. Anyone is invited to offer their input: This feedback is crucial to helping the students refine their work and decide which plans are most viable.

Small images of each of the student home designs are included below. To view a larger version of the image and offer your input, click on the hyperlink above the image.

If you or anyone you know might be interested in purchasing one of these homes, please visit the official uHome U City website for contact information: http://www.uhomeucity.com/
