David Leventi

Biography

David Leventi is a fine-art photographer based in New York. He earned his BFA in Photography from Washington University in St. Louis. Recently, he has exhibited at Bau-Xi Photo Gallery in Toronto, Blue Sky Gallery in Portland, Arthur Roger Gallery in New Orleans, and at the Toronto International Art Fair. Leventi was selected by Photo District News (PDN) as one of 2007's Top 30 Emerging Photographers. In 2008, his work was included in the Communication Arts Photography Annual and in American Photography 24. He received two Graphis Gold awards and was listed among the Critical Mass Top 50 Finalists by Photolucida. His work was recently selected for inclusion in The Collector's Guide to New Art Photography Vol. 2.

Leventi's current project, titled "Bjoerling's Larynx," records the interiors of world-famous opera houses. Photographed with a large-format view camera, this body of work is architecturally meticulous. The large prints historically document these national landmarks, capturing rows of velvet seats, ornate private boxes, chandeliers, and gilt decorations in incredible detail.

Leventi is represented by Bonni Benrubi Gallery in New York, Arthur Roger Gallery in New Orleans, and Bau-Xi Photo Gallery in Toronto. He lives in Brooklyn with his wife, fellow photographer and Washington University in St. Louis graduate Sarina Finkelstein.
