John Sarra

Biography

John Sarra was born in Las Vegas, Nevada, in 1972, and grew up along the southern and eastern coasts of the United States. He received his BA in Studio Art from the College of Charleston in 1994, and in 1997 earned his MFA in Painting from Washington University in St. Louis. John's studio practice is informed by the experiences of an itinerant childhood, a six-year apprenticeship as a custom woodworker, and nine years of intensive home repair and restoration. It is inspired by philosophies of Chinese garden design and an appreciation of quietly distinct visual incidents.
