Painting at Washington University has a rich tradition. Max Beckmann and Phillip Guston are among the many artists who have taught here. As a Painting major, you will work closely with faculty, and you will be encouraged to seek advice from faculty across all disciplinary lines. An active visiting artist program, group critiques, and museum and gallery visits round out this intensive and individualized program. Through consultations with faculty and group critiques with your fellow students, you will have an audience that is simultaneously supportive of your practice while maintaining a dialogue that endorses critical evaluation of your efforts. In addition to studio space, you’ll have access to a wood shop.
