Join the Sam Fox School's ASLA Student Chapter for Virtual Park(ing) Day 2020 via Zoom! Park(ing) Day is an international event in which people creatively transform metered or signed parking spaces into “PARK(ing)” spaces: temporary public spaces. On this day, landscape architects worldwide practice this notion and imagine how a leased, short-term space for the storage of private vehicles can be allocated to serve a broader range of public needs. The original PARK(ing) day installation was founded by Rebar, a firm based in San Francisco, in 2005. The event lasted two hours—the longest possible term lease offered by a parking meter. Since then, the event has gained traction in cities across the world.

This year, we are remaining true to the Park(ing) Day principles of reimaging alternate uses for parking spaces, and invite you to participate through our virtual platform. We are organizing both on-site and virtual interactions.

You are encouraged to participate by:

- Joining the conversation via Zoom
- Signing up to join us in-personat our spots in the Delmar Loop (space is limited, and you must register for a time slot online)
- Bringing a chair and staking out your own parking space from a different location, so you can participate in our mini design challenges (remember to practice safe social distancing!)

During the livestreamed event, we will:
- Tour different parking settings around the city
- Conduct mini design challenges that reimagine a parking spot
- Discuss alternate users of the space besides car
- And much more!

The event is free an open to the public, and will be broadcast via Zoom. If you are interested in participating in the design challenges, visiting our on-site spots, or simply engaging in the conversation learn more and register through this link.
