Baselines 2020: Sam Fox School Student, Faculty, & Staff Workshop

September 30, 2020
4-6p CDT

Given the weight of recent events—in our community, our nation, and in the world, from the Coronavirus pandemic to the killings of unarmed African Americans by members of the police, to an impending presidential election that is sure to highlight deep and historical divisions—the Sam Fox School Fairness and Diversity Committee is initiating a workshop to discuss and hopefully establish a set of baseline principles and guidelines to create a welcoming atmosphere and a sustained sense of community for all members of the Sam Fox School. All Sam Fox School faculty, staff, and students are invited to participate in this important work.

The workshop will take place from 4-6p Wednesday, September 30 on Zoom. You must register here to receive the Zoom link>>

This workshop will begin with stories based on of the experiences of students, faculty, and staff in the Sam Fox School, which will bring to light issues of civility that may have made them concerned, prevented them from sharing how they really felt, or kept them from showing up as their full selves. Please tell your anonymous story here.

We believe that our community can and should be a resource for resilience in an uncertain global environment that has proved to be continuously disruptive. How do we create a welcoming atmosphere that embraces diversity? What are baseline principles for respectful communications and interactions? What guidelines can we arrive at to ensure that our dynamic and rigorous Sam Fox School culture is safe and nurturing to all? We welcome your input and rely upon your commitment to this important and timely call to action.

This workshop is organized with support from and participation of the Habif Health and Wellness Center, the Teaching Center, and the Academy for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion
