Robert McCarter, the Ruth & Norman Moore Professor of Architecture, was invited to participate in the 16th International Architecture Exhibition - La Biennale di Venezia, curated by Yvonne Farrell and Shelley McNamara. The Biennale Architettura 2018 is titled FREESPACE, a word that describes a generosity of spirit and a sense of humanity at the core of architecture's agenda.

McCarter is one of 71 architectural firms selected by the curators for the international exhibition to be judged for the Golden Lion Award. His exhibit is titled Freespace in Place: Four Unrealized Modern Architectural Designs for Venice; Carlo Scarpa’s “Quattro Progetti per Venezia” Revisited, and presents projects by Frank Lloyd Wright, Le Corbusier, Louis Kahn, and Isamu Noguchi selected by Scarpa for exhibit in the 1972 Art Biennale.

Advance copies of McCarter’s book, Grafton Architects, the first on the curators' firm, will be on display in the Biennale bookstore. The book will be published this July by Phaidon Press.
