[dhd] derek hoeferlin design (St. Louis), OBJECT TERRITORIES (New York/Hong Kong), and TLS Landscape Architecture (Berkeley, CA) have won an AIA New York 2019 Honor Award in Urban Design for their project +StL: Growing an Urban Mosaic, an urban and landscape proposal for St. Louis. The project will be published in the spring issue of Oculus and exhibited in Manhattan at the Center for Architecture from April 15-June 29, 2019.

The jury commended the project for employing both strategic and tactical approaches to address the needs of a regional plan, engaging and confronting infrastructural barriers, and reaching north and south into the city's neighborhoods. Jury members included Carol Ross Barney (Ross Barney Architects), Fabrizio Barozzi (Barozzi/Veiga), Craig Barton (School of the Art Institute of Chicago), Billie Faircloth (KieranTimberlake), Alessandro Munge (Studio Munge), Garth Rockcastle (MSR Design), and Brigitte Shim (Shim-Sutcliffe).

"+StL proposes to visibly and physically join North and South St. Louis neighborhoods at the central east-west corridor that spans between the Arch/Mississippi River and Forest Park/Washington University," noted associate professor Derek Hoeferlin, one of the project's co-leaders. "But for this to ultimately succeed, in both the short and long term, our team unequivocally believes that the future 'Chouteau Greenway' must extend at least as far north and south as it does east and west. The +StL figure builds on connectivity and investment planning already underway by local partners, but also provides a multidimensional armature for future projects by Great Rivers Greenway, Trailnet, and many others."
