Dennis McGrath is founder and principal of Dennis McGrath Design, LLC., a design and architectural consulting practice in St. Louis since 2015. He is a senior lecturer in the Graduate School of Architecture & Urban Design at Washington University in St. Louis. McGrath was born in St. Louis and grew up in the southwest part of the city. He completed his undergraduate work at the University of Kansas, earning a bachelor of architecture, a Goldwin Goldsmith Merit Scholarship, and placement in the fifth-year internship program. After graduation, he lived and practiced architecture in Minneapolis for 16 years before returning to St. Louis.

Prior to establishing his own business, McGrath was design director and practice leader with Lawrence Group for ten years. He was senior design project architect with Target; a senior associate with Collins Hansen Architects; and a designer at Ellerbe Becket and MS&R Design in Minneapolis.

In his practice, McGrath specializes in service design for a range of clients and project types where collaboration is required. He has a passion for balanced projects through team building and working with clients who understand the value of broadening the definition of design and the role it has in shaping contemporary culture. In his role as an educator, he teaches Environmental Systems II, Design Options Studio, Degree Project Studio, Design Thinking, and Pre-Design in the graduate program at the Sam Fox School.
